The Biggest April Fool Isn’t the Joke. It’s The Belief Behind It

April Fool’s Day is built on the idea of a hoax.

A trick.

A deception.

Something that looks real on the surface - but isn’t actually true underneath.

And the word hoax itself comes from the idea of deliberate deception. Something designed to mislead.

Which raises an interesting question:

Why do we feel the need to trick people at all?

To create a moment at someone else’s expense.

To distort reality, even briefly.

To play with something that isn’t true.

It’s often harmless.

Light.

Socially accepted.

But underneath it, the energy is still the same - a move away from what’s real.

And we do this in more subtle ways in our own lives too.

We tell ourselves things that sound true…but aren’t.

That we just need to push harder.

That more effort will fix it.

That if we try enough, force enough, override enough - things will shift.

But often, that’s the real deception.

Because for many capable people, the issue isn’t effort. It’s what’s happening underneath it.

The hesitation.

The overthinking.

The internal resistance that shows up just when things start to matter.

So instead of addressing that, we push.

And the friction increases.

Not because we’re doing something wrong - but because we’re working against something that hasn’t been seen yet.

And just like any form of deception, even subtle self-deception creates distortion.

It pulls you away from what’s actually true.

From what’s actually needed.

Whereas alignment is the opposite.

It’s honest.

Clean.

Grounded in what’s real.

And from that place, things move differently.

So today, instead of asking: “Where do I need to push harder?”

It might be more useful to pause and ask:

Where am I not being fully honest with myself - and operating out of alignment with my values?
